Unexpectedly Intriguing!
02 August 2005

Attention government employees! Are you thinking about investing in the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP)? Or would you like to project the future value of your portfolio? The good news is that if you're starting from scratch (or are backdating to when you began making contributions), this is the tool for you!

The tool below breaks down your regular contributions to your investment account by percentages in each of the TSP's five different investment options, allowing you to assign a unique rate of return for each one (the default values that have been entered are the 10-year average annual rates of return for each of the TSP's funds), as well as its unique compounding period (if applicable.) If the amount you invest is fixed to a percentage of your income, you can even project what the average of your future raises might do for your investment portfolio. Go ahead, government worker - try it out!

Of course, you could have used the Thrift Savings Plan's own calculator to project the future value of your investments, but this one let's you play with the rates of return for the individual funds (that private sector - always one step ahead!)
